Berca Mandiri Perkasa Secures Long-Term Skilled Manpower Contract at One of the World’s Most Efficient Ammonia Plants

PT Berca Mandiri Perkasa (BMP) has been awarded a long-term contract to supply skilled manpower for maintenance and asset management services at the ammonia plant of PT Panca Amara Utama (PAU), a subsidiary of PT ESSA Industries Indonesia Tbk (ESSA), located in Banggai, Central Sulawesi.

Effective April 2025, BMP is responsible for providing qualified technical personnel to support two critical areas of plant operations: instrumentation maintenance and mechanical rigging services. These roles are essential to the long-term performance, safety, and reliability of the plant’s core infrastructure.

PAU is globally recognized for operating one of the most energy-efficient ammonia plants in the world. The facility employs KBR’s Reforming Exchanger System and Purifier technology, making it among the first in the world to use both systems at commercial scale. With a daily production capacity of 1,900 metric tons, and long-term gas supply from the Senoro-Toili field, PAU has established itself as one of the lowest-cost and most efficient ammonia producers globally.

The plant also upholds an exceptional safety record, having logged over 8.6 million work hours without a lost-time injury (LTI) — a testament to PAU’s strong safety culture and operational discipline. The addition of skilled manpower from BMP is expected to further support PAU’s efforts in maintaining this benchmark in safety and reliability.

Looking ahead, ESSA and PAU are pursuing a vision of sustainable industrial development through the advancement of Blue Ammonia. This initiative involves implementing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies to reduce the plant’s environmental footprint. Collaborations with international players like Mitsubishi Corporation, JOGMEC, and local academic institutions such as ITB are driving this green transformation.

The partnership between ESSA, PAU, and BMP highlights how Indonesian engineering and workforce capabilities can support and sustain globally competitive, high-tech industrial operations. With this new contract, BMP solidifies its position as a trusted manpower partner in the energy and petrochemical sectors — contributing not only to operational success, but also to the long-term sustainability of Indonesia’s industrial future.
